CHKD Pediatric Urgent Care

Took my 8-month-old son here due to persistent cold symptoms and audible chest rattling. His lungs were auscultated and I was told everything was normal. As a nurse, I trusted the evaluation at the time. One week later, my son developed a 103°F fever. I took him to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. I strongly encourage parents to seek thorough evaluation when symptoms persist or worsen, and to trust their instincts if something does not seem right. They seem like they care to an extent, but this could of had a way worse outcome with my son if I did not follow up with an ER visit.

$561 dollars for a sick examination for my 2 year old without insurance; she had an ear infection. When speaking with the billing department, they could not provide me with the proper charge code posed on the excel spreadsheet located on their transparency page. The itemized charges they did provide to me however did not reconcile mathematically to what was on my bill. In other words, the numbers didn't add up and billing could not provide a logical reason of why the charges happened. The first agent told me to call the outpatient location to receive billing information; untrue, and after a back and fourth three times between departments, I see they are committed to purposeful confusion and billing non-transparency. I felt obligated to leave feedback after today’s visit. My son has been running a high fever for 6 days. The staff here were amazing! They were thorough, kind, and had great temperament with him. From walking in to walking out, we were treated with such great care!!

The least thorough job for treating a 6 month old with a 104.9 fever. Waited 3 hours to be seen for 15 minutes and told that he was fine. We got a second opinion and figured out my son has bacteria growing In his blood.

Absolutely terrible experience. My husband brought in our 18 month old last night because we were afraid she ruptured her eardrum with a foreign object at daycare. They arrived around 6:30 and waited over 2 hours to be seen, and were actually the last people in the waiting room. Upon seeing the provider, they were told my daughter “probably” ruptured her ear drum but they couldn’t tell because of all of the blood in her ear. They also said they didn’t have the right instruments to check, and she just needed to see a specialist. In previous visits, they absolutely had the instruments to check her eardrum and I find it really hard to believe this is not something an urgent care could verify.
